Making Homeownership Affordable

Habitat's Partner Homeownership model helps make owning a home achievable and affordable.  Habitat homeowners are responsible for a mortgage, but are paired with lenders who work to ensure that monthly payments do not exceed 30% of their income.  Habitat bridges the gap between what the homeowner can afford and the appraised value of the home.  Homeowners commit to 200 of volunteer time on the home construction or in their community.

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION PROCESS

1. The first step in the selection process for prospective home owners is completing the eligibility questionnaire. This is an initial screening form and not a final application for home ownership.

2. Once you complete the questionnaire, a team member will contact you within 5 business days to discuss your answers and inform you of next steps.

3. If you are eligible to apply for a Habitat home, we will refer you to our local banking partners. The Lender will contact you to collect your proof of income, tax-returns, and other important financial info. Mortgage payments will not exceed 30% of your gross monthly income. Other financial requirements are a Credit Score of 640 or higher and a debt-to-income ratio not to exceed 43%. What if I don't qualify?

4. If the bank has deemed you eligible and the Selection Committee recommends your application for selection, our Board of Directors will review your materials and give final approval.
